Urbanization is the movement of people from the country to cities and the growth of urban areas. It happens because there are often more opportunities in cities. Many people who go to other countries to study, live, or work find it hard to get used to new cultures. This response is commonly referred to as “culture shock”. For people moving to Australia, Price (2001) has identified some values in Australia that might cause culture shock for newcomers. First, he says that Australians think independence and personal choice are very important. This means that teachers do not tell students exactly what to do. Instead, they give students different choices and let them decide what is best. If something goes wrong, students are expected to solve the problem and find help on their own. Australians also accept many different opinions. They do not believe there is only one right answer.
