You know, one food adventure that really

is the first time I tried durian, the infamous “king of fruits.” To give you a quick picture, this happened in July 2023 at a bustling night market in Ho Chi Minh City, right by a fruit stall piled high with spiky, pungent durians. I was with my friend Minh, who’s a durian and insisted I had to despite its notorious smell.

Now, how did I feel about trying it? Honestly, it was like

, you know? The smell hit me first—like a mix of overripe onions and gym socks—and I was , wondering if I’d regret this. But Minh’s enthusiasm , so I took a bite of the creamy, custard-like flesh, and it was —sweet, rich, and oddly savory all at once. I wasn’t sure if I loved it, but I was thrilled to have my hesitation; it felt like a small victory over my comfort zone. Minh was my confused expression, which made the moment even more fun. Afterward, I felt this buzz of excitement, like I’d unlocked a new experience, and it made me more open to trying bold flavors in the future. It was a reminder that sometimes you’ve got to to discover something new.
