The person I know who truly enjoys working for a family business is my cousin, Anh Thư.

To tell you a little bit about her, she’s 27 years old and

at night, and even creates new menu items (her phở xào and summer-roll specials are now famous in the neighborhood). On weekends, she’s the smiling face who .

Now, to answer the question why my cousin likes it so much, she always says, “This place is alive because of our family’s story.” For her, every bowl of phở carries memories—her grandfather’s original recipe, her dad teaching her how to slice beef paper-thin, customers who watched her grow up from a little girl sitting on the counter to the person now

. She feels proud that the restaurant feeds not just customers but also supports aunts, uncles, and cousins who work part-time or get help when they need it. The money isn’t huge, but the freedom to make decisions, the direct “thank you” from people who say her phở starts their day right, and the fact that she’s . She often jokes that she’ll never get rich, but she wakes up happy every morning knowing the shop is hers to protect and improve. Watching her, I see that for Thư, the family business isn’t just a job—it’s her second home and her biggest love.
