The creative person I admire most is Willard Wigan, the

who makes art so tiny it fits in the eye of a needle. He’s an English artist who is famous for creating the world’s smallest handmade sculptures.

I first learned about him earlier this year when a short video of “Career Ladder”

on my Tiktok feed. In Willard’s episode where he revealed he was a sculptor, I as the camera zoomed into the eye of a needle. There was Alice in Wonderland having tea with the Mad Hatter – all hand-carved from a single grain of sand and painted with a single strand of hair from a housefly as a brush. I’ve been following his work ever since.

His greatest achievement, in my opinion, is

for the smallest handmade sculptures. His first record in 2013 was for a 24-carat gold motorbike crafted within a hollowed hair of his own. Four years later, he broke his own record by sculpting a human embryo from a strand of fibre. Some of his pieces are displayed in permanent collections at museums and he was even knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2007. But the one that still is his 2017 sculpture of the Hollywood sign with nine characters standing on it – all balanced on an eyelash.

Now, why do I think he’s so creative? Well, the main reason is that he

. He sculpts between heartbeats to uses a tiny diamond-tipped tool he made himself, and paints with a hair from a dead fly because a human hair is too thick. He once spent four months carving a miniature motorcycle and rider inside the eye of a needle. Most people would say “that’s impossible” and give up – Willard says “watch me” and then does it. His imagination isn’t just big; it’s microscopic in the most spectacular way. Watching his work makes me feel like– if you can dream it, you can make it, even if it’s smaller than a speck of dust.
