The time that comes to mind is when I accidentally broke my mom’s favorite ceramic teapot, the one she’d been using every single morning for almost 15 years.

As for when and where it happened, it was last October, in our kitchen at home. I had just come back from university, still wearing my backpack, and I was

before jumping on a group video call. The teapot was on the counter next to the fridge. As I swung the fridge door open, my backpack knocked the teapot, and I watched it fall and on the floor. The sound was awful—like a tiny explosion.

I stood there frozen for a second,

, because I knew exactly how much that teapot : my grandmother had bought it for my mom when she got her first job in the early 90s. Since then, it had survived three house moves and countless family breakfasts.

Now, to tell you what I did right after that, I immediately

so nobody would step on it, wrapped them in newspaper, and hid the bundle in the trash so Mom wouldn’t see the broken pieces and feel sad all over again. Then I went straight to Shopee, found the exact same model (a classic Bat Trang teapot with the little blue flower pattern), , and had it sent to my aunt’s address so I could pick it up secretly. The following morning, before Mom noticed anything was missing, I washed the new one, filled it with fresh tea leaves, and left it in the exact same spot with a small note: “I hope you enjoy the tea I made. You're the best, mom!”. From then on, the past is the past. She never knew it was broken (or at least she pretends she didn’t), and every time she pours tea from it now, I that I fixed my mistake without making her sad for even one morning.
